4 Things to Think About Before Meeting with Your Builder

Beginning the process of building a new home is one of the most exciting times of your life, and everyone at Heartland Builders couldn’t be more happy for you! In this stage of your journey, you’re probably smiling from ear to ear thinking about the incredible future you have ahead of you. And it only gets better from here…

Before you talk with our fun and friendly team for the first time, there are a few things you can prepare to make the most out of your meeting. Of course, nothing is mandatory, and the extent of how comfortable you feel with these talking points on your own is up to you! Take a look at what we recommend thinking about:

 

1. Your Budget

If you don’t have a precise idea of your budget right now, that’s totally normal — you can always get a clearer answer by getting pre-qualified from a banker. If you have a home to sell, you can also talk with realtors to figure out what you can expect to receive from the sale. Above all else, we’re here to work with you to determine which kinds of plans will be a perfect fit!

 

2. Type of Home

This is the best part of all! Think of this like making your dream birthday list as a child… Whatever you’ve always wanted for your home – a ranch or a 2 story, where do you want your owner’ suite to be located, do you want a fireplace or a tile shower? What about a tub in the owner’s bathroom?  You get the idea – how do you want to live and enjoy your home. Our team will ensure that your vision comes to life as accurately as possible.

 

3. Land

Some of our clients have land when they come to meet with us, and some don’t.  Either is fine.  If you don’t have land, think about areas that you are interested in living and the type of home you would like.  If you want a sprawling ranch, make sure you are looking at larger sites.  Maybe you want a walkout lower level – make sure land that you look at has enough slope.   Also, know what utilities are available – is it well and septic or city water/sewer hook up?   And most importantly, we always suggest you have a builder look at your lot BEFORE you purchase it.  When we meet, we will be talking about some of these items so spend some time thinking about them.

 

4. Your Questions

Before we meet, you’re more than welcome to write out a list of questions or concerns that you have about the process. You can also find a host of resources around our website, including overviews of our process, energy-wise construction, 3D design, and design center, as well as in-depth information about all of our homes. Most of all, don’t worry about coming in with a long list — our job is to make sure you feel completely confident!
