Absolutely! Our floorplans are fully customizable. Think of them as the starting point, not the limit. And if you've got something else in mind, we can design a completely custom plan just for you. Your home should be your blueprint.

What’s the design process like?

It’s where the fun begins! You’ll sit with us in our design studio and we’ll draw your home in real time using 3D modeling. This process is interactive, visual, and gives you a clear idea of how every decision, from layout to design finishes, will look before construction ever starts.

Think of us as partners in the process. We walk you through every phase from design to selections and then construction, so you're always up to speed. Our goal is to build a beautiful custom home together using a process that is enjoyable and never overwhelming.

The Design Studio is like your home’s personal inspiration hub. You’ll explore your options for your home, work with our interior design team, and make selections for flooring, cabinets, finishes—all before breaking ground. This keeps things fun, efficient, and transparent.

We build across Grand Rapids and West Michigan from our Design Studios in Grand Rapids and on the Lakeshore. Whether you're on a lake lot in Grand Haven, on an urban lot in Grand Rapids or tucked into the countryside, we’ll help you build a home that fits your setting and lifestyle.

Heartland Builders is a design/build firm, meaning we design most of the homes we build. We have floorplans available on our website, and many of our homes start with one of our plans, but they do not have to. We can design and build a fully custom home as well.

Our process is unlike that of most builders. We draw our plans in 3D in order to provide our clients with an interactive experience. You will get to participate in the design of your home as we draw it, sitting with us and making real-time decisions about your home’s layout and design. Best of all, you will see your decisions become “live” on the screen so you will know what your home will look like from the very beginning. It is a wonderful experience that our clients love.
