FAQ: Do I Need to Have a Home Design Prepared to Build a New Home?

Many people believe they need to have a home design ready in order to build their custom home. In fact, this is one of our most frequently asked questions, especially for people who have never built a home before. The short answer is “NO!”

Whether you have a clear-cut idea of what you want your home to look and feel like, or you only know that you definitely want a “family-first” design, we’ll work closely with you to figure out a plan for your new home.

Design Your New Home in West Michigan

There are usually three paths to creating a home design:

  1. Start with one of our plans for inspiration, and we will adjust it to make it fit your family.
  2. Find a few plans on the internet that you like, and we will combine them to make YOUR plan.
  3. Draw your perfect plan on a piece of paper, and we will work with that. (Yes, really!)

People come to us with plans in all different forms, and we are happy to work with all of them to create a home that matches their unique lifestyle.

We Will Work with You on Your Home Design

Heartland has a wide array of customizable plans available. Looking through them is a great place to start if you’re really not sure what you like (or don’t like)! Two stories or ranch? Traditional or contemporary? How many bedrooms? Bathrooms? Garages? Then, we can delve into your wish list: The huge open kitchen with room for everyone. The mudroom/laundry room of your dreams. A screened porch for al fresco dining sans bugs. A garage with room for a workshop.
