Through genuine love and care for every person they work with, Rich and Cindy truly put the heart into Heartland and redefine what it means to be a “family builder.” Our team couldn’t be more proud to work with such an incredible husband and wife duo, who inspire us every day to make the lives of our homeowners extraordinary!
As if it was meant to be, starting Heartland Builders always felt like the natural path for Rich and Cindy (Rich worked a few summers in a lumber yard and Cindy’s family built homes when she was growing up). When Cindy’s family had a few empty lots left in Greenville, Rich and Cindy started to build and sell spec homes. Soon enough, someone asked them to build a custom home, and the rest is history…
Anyone who’s ever met our leaders (who are high school sweethearts, no less!) knows how much they truly love what they do. It’s no surprise that Rich and Cindy find excitement and satisfaction in their work every day, from helping people realize their dreams to reminiscing with new homeowners about their very first meetings together (We’d also like to point out that they both used the word “fun,” and we couldn’t agree more).
Most importantly, Rich and Cindy know that they’re not the only ones who make a difference. Many times, our homeowners influence Heartland Builders just as much as we influence them. One instance that had a profound impact on Rich and Cindy was when they built a home for a gentleman in a wheelchair. “We realized how important it is for your home to not only be beautiful, but functional as well, especially if you have a disability or know someone with a disability (like an aging parent or even a child that broke their leg).”
It was this experience that taught Rich and Cindy about the ever-growing importance of universal design, and building high-quality homes that ensure homeowners get to age gracefully with the support that they need. Since then, Rich and Cindy have never looked back, and continue to build homes filled with character, heart, and everything that people need to live their most comfortable and fulfilling lives.
Outside of the office, Rich and Cindy are just as fun-loving and family-oriented as they are when they’re building homes. They love to visit their three awesome kids, Adam (a CPA) in Detroit, Ben (a first-year medical student) in Grand Rapids, and Sarah (a senior at DePaul University) in Chicago. Sarah was recently accepted into the Peace Corp, and she is heading to Rwanda. Talk about proud parents! They also love to exercise (“so we can be active as we age”), read, meet up with friends, camp, and of course, “we do enjoy working!” When it comes to total relaxation, their go-to is spending time on their boat in the summer.
Last but not least, Rich and Cindy want you to know just how much our brand new tagline rings true. Building a custom home with Heartland Builders is Easy. Fun. Fast(er than you think). “It doesn’t have to be hard or stressful, and it shouldn’t be!” All of us here want to thank Rich and Cindy for making our careers so fulfilling and for showing us what it means to put our homeowners first. We’ve had an incredible time building family homes over the years, and we can’t wait for what 2019 brings!
