Muddy Boots Tour Recap

We had such a blast this past week discussing our custom building process with everyone that attended our Muddy Boots tour. There’s nothing we love more than helping you feel confident about this exciting journey.

If you weren’t able to attend our latest Muddy Boots tour, not to worry! We’re here to give you a “behind-the-scenes” look at a few of the things we went over with attendees. Take a look at a few questions that were asked, and don’t hesitate to reach out to us with more questions that you may have!

Do you need gas stops for a zero-step entry from the garage?

No the building code changed in 2009, and they found the gas stop which was thought to stop gas from seeping into the home wasn’t necessary.

How long does it take to go from the start of framing to shingles on the roof?

It took about 3 weeks for this home (and depends on the size of home).

Can you build a home during the winter?

Yes, construction is a 365 day a year business. The only thing that may affect building are frost laws. Frost laws are placed on Non Class A roads to protect the surface from potholes when heavy equipment is driven over the roads. Frost starts to leave the ground as the weather warms up and they don’t want the heavy equipment to push the frost back down (that’s what causes heaving or potholes). The dates can and do vary based on the weather. Typically, they are in effect during the month of March and maybe part of April; but, it’s Michigan and you never know!

How long does it take to build a home?

It will take us 5 ½ to 6 months, depending if we finish your lower level or not.

We hope to see you on March 14 for our next Build N’ Brew, where we’ll discuss building and financing a new home while enjoying coffee and breakfast treats. And of course, if you have questions that we didn’t cover, we’d love to hear from you! You can contact us at any time to discuss exactly what it’s like to build a brand new Heartland Builders home in the Grand Rapids area!
