SOME OF THE BEST HOMES AREN’T JUST BUILT FOR ONE CHAPTER OF LIFE.

THEY’RE BUILT FOR ALL OF THEM.

Whether you’re making space for aging parents, welcoming back an adult child, or just wanting the people you love a little closer, multigenerational living can create something really special. We make it feel connected.

The fun part is finding the right balance for your family. During the design process, we love helping homeowners explore creative ways to make a home feel both shared and personal. From accessible features that blend seamlessly into the design to flexible spaces that evolve over time, the possibilities are exciting.

We’ve worked with families across West Michigan to design homes that bring generations together while still giving everyone room to breathe.

HOW WE DESIGN FOR MULTIGENERATIONAL LIVING

There’s something really meaningful about building a home where grandparents, parents, and kids can all stay connected through everyday life. The laughter, the support, the traditions, the little moments you don’t plan for. A home designed for multiple generations doesn’t just function better. It lives better.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer here. Here are the ways we’ve made it happen:

ATTACHED IN-LAW SUITES

A fully separate living space connected through the garage or laundry room gives you the best of both worlds – close enough to share a meal, independent enough to feel like home. We’ve built complete mother-in-law suites with their own entrance, kitchen, living area, and bedroom. Two households, one address.

Every municipality has its own rules around zoning and permits – we’ll help you work through that before you get too far down the road.

MULTIPLE PRIMARY SUITES

Sometimes it’s as simple as designing two full en-suites on the main level so different generations can live comfortably together without getting in each other’s way. No separate structure needed, just thoughtful floor planning.

MAIN-LEVEL PRIMARY SUITE

Designing the primary suite on the main floor is one of the smartest moves you can make for long-term livability. It supports aging in place, eliminates stairs for older family members, and naturally separates living spaces for different generations.

ACCESSIBLE DESIGN FEATURES

Zero-step entries, wider doorways, curbless showers, and grab bars don’t have to look clinical. When built into the design from the start, they’re seamless, beautiful, and future-proof.

SEPARATE ENTRANCES

Privacy matters. A dedicated exterior entrance for a secondary suite or lower level gives family members their own comings and goings without crossing through the main living space.

FLEXIBLE BONUS SPACES

Guest rooms that become permanent ones. Lower levels that grow into full apartments. Flex spaces with pocket doors that shift from home office to bedroom as the family evolves. We love designing homes that can change as your life does.

SHARED COMMON AREAS

The best multigenerational homes have great places to come together, not just retreat. Big kitchens, open living areas, and gathering spaces that feel warm and inviting for everyone, regardless of age.

IF THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE KIND OF HOME YOU’RE DREAMING ABOUT, WE’D LOVE TO HELP YOU BRING IT TO LIFE.
