The 2018 Spring HBA Parade of Homes is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to show you around our modern farmhouse home!
We recently sat down with happy homeowners Ross and Kassie to discuss their experience with us, and how they feel about their finished home! Check out what Ross and Kassie are happiest about, and the advice they’d love to give to those about to embark on this incredible journey.
What was the first word that came to mind once your new home was just about done?
“Kitchen!!” Seeing it without all of the plastic was incredible. We have the most beautiful counter and backsplash! We’re just really happy with the way it turned out.

What do you love MOST about your home?
We definitely love our main living space. Our goal was to have a room where we could bring our family together and all hang out, and we’re really happy that this room ended up just as we wanted it to. We also love just driving up to our home — it has a nice curb appeal.

What are some of your other favorite design elements in your home?
There’s something amazing about the tile shower, the ship lap in the bedroom, and the fireplace. We really like the built-ins with cubbies in the mudroom as well! The lights and windows and doors are also incredible and bring such a warm and cozy vibe.
What would you tell someone who is in the beginning stages of searching for a builder?
Seek advice! Check out a builder’s work and get word-of-mouth recommendations. Most importantly, interview any builders that you think you may want to work with, and meet them in person to see if your values align and if it’s a good fit.
If someone were to ask you, what would you tell them about the team here?
The team at Heartland Builders is really great to work with. They communicate well with each other and with us, and have a sharp attention to detail. We loved that they were always honest with us up front about costs, pricing, and timing.
Did you like our online portal*?
Yes! We really liked the chance to make selections at home as well as being able to see our schedule at any time. Because the timeline of the process was long, they broke it up into bits and pieces, so it wasn’t overwhelming in the slightest. Being able to see how the money changes with each selection was so helpful.
*A customer-based software that allows customers to review construction costs and manage change orders.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
All in all, it’s a process. When we first met with Heartland Builders and signed the design agreement, Rich said that we needed to commit some time — and this was true. It’s good to know that you might need both sufficient meeting time as well as personal time to think through things on your own to make the best decisions.
